Course content addresses applicable state, federal and provincial safety regulations. The first part of training includes comprehensive in-class instruction and exam. Following that is a customized hands-on session together with practical instruction and evaluation.
Course content applies to all categories and types of overhead lifting equipment. Particular instruction would concentrate on aspects of crane operation used at the trainee's workplace. Upon finishing the course, individuals training would learn how to operate specific overhead lifting machines, related parts and attachments safely and efficiently.
The purpose of the operator course is to identify any potentially dangerous habits that an operator could develop while operating an overhead crane. The course would encompass about eight hours of classroom instruction with a couple of hours of customized, on-site, hands-on training. Participants will be graded on their knowledge of training material through written tests and an evaluation of their practical knowledge. The minimum acceptable score is 80 percent.
The in-class session, the trainee will know about legislation and guidelines, causes of damages and occurrences, danger awareness, internal responsibility, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, basic equipment and design principles, safe hosting/operating techniques, pre-shift equipment checks, equipment applications/rigging, types of hardware, angles and hitches, pedestrian/operator safety, hand signals for operators and slingers, flipping/turning loads safely.
The practical training and evaluation portion of the course should be pre-scheduled. This customized portion of the training will be held at the trainees' facility. The duration of this practical training part is one to two hours. The instructor would train two operators at a time about skills like planning the lift, proper rigging practices and safe operation.
After completing both the practical training and evaluation and the in-class instruction, the trainee would be tested via an exam. Every participant will be needed to sign the safety rules. Individual wallet certificates would be given to trainees who are successful. The company will be given a framed wall certificate.
